Ohio State: Justin Fields blowing everyone away in first start
Ohio State’s big-time transfer at quarterback Justin Fields has really been showing out in his first start with the team against FAU.
The Ohio State Buckeyes said goodbye to Heisman finalist Dwayne Haskins this offseason as he bolted for the 2019 NFL Draft.
Haskins was just a redshirt sophomore, and most teams facing similar situations would be crippled at the quarterback position, but not Ohio State.
They were quite fortunate that the Georgia program is committed to Jake Fromm, because Fromm’s backup last year — Justin Fields — became one of the most coveted transfer players in recent memory and picked the Buckeyes.
Fields was a top high school prospect two years ago and has been considered a future possible franchise quarterback for the NFL.
He has done nothing to squash those prophecies in his first start for the Ohio State Buckeyes, blowing people away with his big arm and ability to create as a runner.
These look like easy plays, and Ohio State is playing Florida Atlantic, after all, but this is big-time college football and it’s Justin Fields throwing against a defense and the pressure of being the next great quarterback at Ohio State.
He seems to be settling in nicely.
He’s responsible for all four of their touchdowns in the first half against the FAU Owls, three passing, and one rushing.
There will likely be no seller’s remorse for Georgia, which will likely get just one more season of Jake Fromm unless things don’t go well, and they obviously want them to go well.
It remains to be seen whether Fromm or Fields are ‘generational’ type talents at the quarterback position, but Fromm being a third-year starter who took the Bulldogs to the CFB Playoff his freshman season gives them the best chance to compete for an SEC and National title.
It looks like Fromm and the Bulldogs have a decent chance of seeing Fields and the Buckeyes if that happens.
