Indianapolis Colts: 2020 NFL Draft options to replace Andrew Luck
Many people believed Justin Herbert was making empty threats to stay at Oregon for this coming season, but it turns out he values Saturdays in Eugene more than he does getting to Sunday football.
If you’ve ever seen a video tour of Oregon’s football facilities, it’s really tough to blame Herbert. He’s living the dream at Oregon, and now he gets the chance to play with his brother — a tight end — for a season.
Herbert’s body type and sometimes even his playing style remind me of Colin Kaepernick. He’s long but athletic and can put the ball on a rope.
He’s struggled some with injuries and inconsistency throughout his college career, but what young player hasn’t? At this point, you’re not looking for a finished product. You’re looking for consistent improvement and for the game to slow down for guys.
That has happened for Herbert, but the time is now to take the next step.
I believe he would have been QB1 off the board in the 2019 NFL Draft if he had declared, and he still has a better-than-good shot at being a top 10 pick in 2020.
