Nick Mullens

Up next, we are going to take a look at a potential trade target for the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are going to head into this season with Brissett as their starter, but if they want to bring in some legitimate competition, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens would be a strong addition.

Mullens started eight games for the 49ers last season, after quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and C.J. Beathard when down with injuries. Mullens stepped up and played well for San Fran, completing 64.2% of his passes for 2,277 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Mullens is a smaller quarterback who does not have the ideal arm strength to compete at the NFL level. That being said, he showed some promise last season, consistently making plays both inside and outside the structure of the offense.

He is an accurate passer who also shows the ability to consistently put the proper touch on his passes. Mullens has good pocket presence and shows enough mobility and elusiveness to escape out of the pocket and make plays when necessary. His accuracy remains strong when throwing on the run.

If nothing else, Mullens is a tough player who always gives great effort and is a great natural leader. He was an undrafted rookie last season, but Mullen played well above his NFL draft stock.

Despite his success last season, with Garoppolo and Beathard back healthy, I imagine that the 49ers would be willing to part with Mullens for a relatively low price. I could see the Indianapolis Colts targeting Mullens immediately and bringing him in to compete with Brissett in 2019. Maybe one of them hits and the Colts figure out their quarterback situation before next offseason even hits.
