Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Darwin Thompson can bring you a fantasy football championship.

Make no mistake about it, Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Darwin Thompson is now a must target in fantasy football drafts. Thompson is an extremely gifted back who fits the Chiefs offense perfectly and may be in line for enough touches to make a serious impact in fantasy football.

After his fantastic play down the stretch, most of us expected Damien Williams to be the primary running back for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, making him an exciting fantasy football target. That being said, Williams has struggled with a hamstring injury throughout training camp, opening the door for the other backs on the roster.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is now looking at his backfield as a running back-by-commitee situation. He has mentioned Damien and Darrel Williams, veteran Carlos Hyde and rookie Darwin Thompson as players who will all get an opportunity to prove themselves. Out of all of the players on the roster, Thompson undoubtedly has the highest ceiling, especially when we consider what he can do in the Chiefs’ explosive offensive attack.

After an impressive career at Utah State, the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Thompson in the sixth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In college, Thompson showed an impressive combination of quickness and power that will play at the next level.

He struggles to consistently find the proper hole, but when he does find space, he hits the hole hard and shows good burst. He is a slippery back in space and despite an obvious lack of size, shows some nice power at the point of contact. Darwin Thompson uses proper pad level to pick up extra yardage on a consistent basis. He is a talented back who can create yardage as an inside and outside runner.

Thompson also has a lot of experience as a receiver out of the backfield. His route tree was relatively limited in college, but he knows how to get open, catches the ball well and turns upfield quickly with the ball.

Simply put, Thompson makes the most out of his opportunities at all times and is a real asset with the ball in his hands. He is the kind of player who can handle carries on the inside and also make plays in the passing game. The rookie is an impressive player who is an ideal fit for the Chiefs offense.

In a wide-open backfield, Thompson has a legitimate chance to separate himself and become a big-time contributor in an explosive offensive attack. He is far from a sure thing, but if he hits, Thompson can quickly become a fantasy star. Simply put, Thompson is the kind of player who can win you a fantasy football championship.
