College Football Preview: #8 Florida Gators vs. Miami Hurricanes
Florida Gators Players To Watch
QB Feleipe Franks – The development and maturation of the redshirt junior quarterback has been well documented. This past season, Franks passed for a career-high in yards (2,457) and touchdowns (24). His completion percentage also progressed as he started all 13 games.
Although equipped with an athletic, superior defense, Franks and his ability will illustrate whether or not the Gators offense will be reliable or not. Over the course of the last four games of the season, Franks did not throw any interceptions and showcased what was needed from him to instill confidence in the Gators faithful.
CB C.J. Henderson – Depending on who you converse with, some will say that Henderson is the best defensive player on the Gators and one of the best cornerbacks in all of college football. Henderson earned All-SEC second-team honors last season after totaling 38 tackles, two interceptions and three sacks. Henderson is the real deal as a cornerback prospect and has already placed himself firmly on the NFL radar.
RB Lamical Perine – The leading rusher from the last two seasons, Perine is a seasoned veteran that is the bell-cow of the Florida Gators run game. Perine averaged 6.2 yards per carry last season to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. The regular-season finale against rival Florida State saw Perine gash the Seminoles defense with 129 rushing yards and 9.9 yards per carry. Of note, the Gators are starting four new offensive linemen this season. Something to carefully watch for the Gators offense as they look to establish the run game early.
