The 2020 NFL Draft is expected to be loaded with talent at the running back position. It is going to be difficult for any under-the-radar prospect to put themselves into first-round consideration, but as we have seen in recent years, mid-round running backs can certainly hold a lot of value.

Florida’s Lamical Perine is one of those mid-tier backs who I am going to be keeping a close eye on this season. Perine is a complete back who has true three-down potential at the next level.

Perine’s physical running style immediately stands out on tape. He is the kind of player who makes the most out of all of his touches, consistently working hard to pick up extra yardage. He is a load to take down in one-on-one situations, using fantastic natural power and pad level to run through defenders. He also consistently keeps his feet moving through contact and falls forward.

Perine does not have elite athleticism at the running back position, but he does have solid speed, good quickness and impressive natural balance as a runner. He also shows good vision and consistently hits the hole hard.

The Gators are going to rely heavily on Perine this season and it is going to be interesting to see how he has been able to improve his game. If he keeps his power and shows a bit more burst this season, Perine should quickly rise up 2020 NFL draft boards and become a premier target for running back needy teams in the middle rounds.
