2020 NFL Draft: Teams who could be targeting first-round quarterbacks
4. Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans never expected to be in this position. When they took Marcus Mariota with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, they fully expected him to lead their franchise to the promised land. Well, that has not exactly happened.
The Titans have done a great job of building their roster in recent years. They have a strong offensive line and plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball and an impressive group of defensive playmakers as well. However, Mariota continues to be an issue at the quarterback position.
Mariota has not been terrible for the Titans, but he has not become what we thought he would when he was drafted. He does a nice job of keeping plays alive with his legs, but Mariota simply has not been much of a playmaker in the NFL.
He has become more of a game manager for the Titans and they simply do not seem to trust him to fully lead their offense. Now, Mariota could certainly come out and take the next step forward in 2019, but would it be enough?
Mariota is going to be a free agent this offseason. Are the Titans really going to pay him to be their franchise quarterback going forward? I have a hard time believing so. Mariota is solid, but he has simply not been the kind of quarterback who you can build around throughout his NFL career.
Unless he has a huge year, I expect the Titans to move on from Mariota this offseason. Replacing him in free agency is possible, but doing it through the 2020 NFL Draft is probably more likely.
