The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were smart to take a flyer this undrafted rookie wide receiver.

On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed undrafted rookie wide receiver Emanuel Hall, after he was waived by the Chicago Bears earlier in the week. Hall was an interesting UDFA signing by the Bears, but he has struggled with injuries throughout training camp and was unlikely to make much of an impact in a crowded receiver room with the Bears.

That being said, he is the exact kind of high-upside player who the Buccaneers should be taking a flyer on right now.

Hall was a star receiver in college for the Missouri Tigers, piling up 97 receptions for 2,016 yards and 16 touchdowns in 32 career games. He was an impressive deep threat at Missouri, averaging 20.8 yards per catch through his four college seasons.

At 6-foot-2, 201 pounds, Hall has nice size at the wide receiver position. On top of that, he has blazing speed on the outside. His speed immediately stands out on tape, but it was backed up with his 4.39 40-yard dash at the combine.

Hall does a great job of getting a clean release at the line of scrimmage and lets his physical tools take over after that. His speed and overall athleticism are exciting and when paired with his size, gives him obvious upside at the next level. Hall will have to improve his route running and become a more consistent target in order to reach said upside, but the raw talent is undoubtedly there.

Led by Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in pretty good shape at the wide receiver position. That being said, it is not like they are absolutely loaded with depth. There is certainly room for a player like Hall to come in and impress through the rest of training camp and find himself on the active roster to start the regular season.

The Bucs are not exactly in a position where they are expected to compete this season. Their roster has holes all over the place that simply must be addressed going forward. Now is the time for the Bucs to take flyers on talented players who could end up growing into legitimate playmakers down the line.

Hall is far from guaranteed to be a star at the next level, but he is undoubtedly a worthwhile flyer for the Bucs to take a chance on.
