Oakland Raiders land Tua Tagovailoa at No. 2 in 2020 NFL Mock Draft
In a recent 2020 NFL Mock Draft, the Oakland Raiders move on from Derek Carr and take Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The Oakland Raiders thought they were set at the quarterback position. Derek Carr showed a lot of promise early in his career but has proven to be limited in recent years. Carr opts for the check-down option far too often and does not do a great job of getting the most of his abilities. The Raiders could decide to go with him as their franchise quarterback going forward, but that is far from a sure thing.
In a recent 2020 NFL mock draft by Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone, the Oakland Raiders find a new franchise quarterback when they take Tua Tagovailoa with the second overall pick. This move would likely signal the end for Carr as the starting quarterback for the Raiders and would certainly inject some excitement into the franchise.
While it is still early, Tagovailoa is considered by most to be the top quarterback prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft by most in the draft community. He is a physically gifted signal-caller who has the arm to make any throw on the field and can also create plays with his legs.
He shows impressive accuracy to all levels, places the ball extremely well and knows how to put the proper touch on his passes. Simply put, Tagovailoa is a big-time quarterback prospect who undoubtedly has a bright future at the next level.
The Raiders certainly have other needs on the roster that must be addressed. That being said, nothing is more important than finding a true franchise quarterback. If Carr is not the guy, Jon Gruden and company would be wise to move on sooner, rather than later.
Tagovailoa may take a year or two to get established, but his upside as the Raiders’ quarterback is absolutely massive. It would be ridiculous to take any NFL mock draft scenario too seriously, but this is a fun one to think about.
