Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas was the one player who it killed me to leave off of my list of most likely first overall picks. Besides quarterback and edge rusher, offensive tackle is the position most likely to go first overall in the modern NFL.

Keeping your franchise quarterback clean is incredibly important and teams are not afraid to take an offensive tackle early if he is good enough. Well, Thomas is good enough.

Thomas has ideal size and length for an NFL left tackle. He is an incredibly strong player who can physically dominate most defenders in front of him, both in the run game and as a pass protector. Thomas also moves his feet extremely well, getting off of the ball quickly, consistently reaching the second-level and staying in front of elite rushers on the edge.

The Georgia product has started for both of his years in college, first at right tackle as a true freshman and then at left tackle as a sophomore. He is undoubtedly one of the best offensive linemen in college football and has a bright future ahead of him.

If a team that already has a franchise quarterback ends up picking number one overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Thomas will undoubtedly be on the radar. That team has to protect its investment in their quarterback and there is no better way to do that than taking an elite left tackle prospect like Thomas.
