5. Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State

Quarterbacks have been taken with the first overall pick in eight of the last 11 NFL drafts. Two of those three non-quarterbacks taken number one were edge rushers (Jadeveon Clowney in 2014 and Myles Garrett in 2017). We all know that quarterback is the most important position in professional sports and the NFL Draft results reflect that. However, it is also important to find a guy who can get after the quarterback.

With this in mind, we know that Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young has a chance to go number one overall. Young is a former five-star recruit who exploded onto the scene as a true sophomore last season. In 13 games in 2018, Young was a consistent pass rush threat for Ohio State, piling up 9.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.

Young is a long and athletic pass rusher who shows impressive burst off of the snap. He changes directions well, has a fantastic pass rush repertoire and can bend around the edge with ease. Young also closes on the quarterback quickly and finishes strong. As a run defender, Young shows the ability to set the edge and can also penetrate the line of scrimmage and make plays in the backfield.

The Ohio State product needs to work on becoming a more consistent player. However, Young has all of the talent in the world to become the premier edge defender in the 2020 NFL Draft class. If he can improve his motor in 2019, Young undoubtedly has a chance to be the top overall pick.
