Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray impressing early in training camp
Rookie quarterback Kyler Murray is immediately turning heads at Arizona Cardinals training camp.
Give them credit, the Arizona Cardinals were incredibly bold this offseason. After going 3-13 in 2018, the Cardinals hired a head coach who was fired by a college team last season. On top of that, they took a true boom or bust quarterback prospect with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, just one year after trading up for a quarterback in the top ten.
Were these moves smart? Perhaps not, but they were certainly bold and this marriage between Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray certainly has the potential to save this franchise.
As training camp opens, the early performance of Murray is not only the top story for the Arizona Cardinals, it is one of the top stories throughout the entire league. Murray is an incredibly exciting player who has elite upside at the quarterback position. If he hits in Kingsbury’s modern pass-happy offense, the sky truly is the limit.
Well, early reports out of Cardinals camp are positive, as Kyler Murray is showing off his impressive playmaking ability.
The rookie quarterback is also seeing what Arizona Cardinals legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald can do for him on the field.
With his combination of elite speed, strong throwing arm and good accuracy, Murray is a fantastic playmaker at the quarterback position. The offense as a whole is a work in progress, but the Cardinals have surrounded Murray with plenty of talent to work with at the wide receiver position. Plus, Kingsbury is going to put in place an offense that fits his talents perfectly.
Taking Murray number one was certainly a bit risky, but the former Heisman Trophy winner certainly has the talent to make the Cardinals front office look brilliant.
Last year was an extremely tough year for the Arizona Cardinals, but things are certainly looking up with Murray leading the way. We could legitimately be looking at a superstar quarterback in the making here. At worst, Murray and the Arizona offense are going to be a lot of fun to watch this season.
