Why Tyreek Hill to the Buffalo Bills makes sense for both teams
Why it makes sense for the Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills lack a true number one wide receiver, but after a busy offseason bringing in John Brown and Cole Beasley, the acquisition of Hill would make for a stellar passing attack in Buffalo. This trade would give the Bills a true number one receiver, their first since the departure of Sammy Watkins.
Watkins was a first-round pick (fourth overall) by Buffalo in 2014. He has had some injury issues in his career and never lived up to his first-round talent status. Watkins only had one season over 1,000 yards of receiving, it came back in 2015.
If they bring in Tyreek Hill, the Bills will have the best receiver on the roster since Eric Moulds was in Buffalo. Hill’s stats the last two seasons are fantastic with both seasons well above 1,000 yards receiving. He had a career year last season, with 87 receptions for 1,479 yards and an average of 17 yards per play. He also caught 12 touchdowns and would make for an immediate deep threat for Josh Allen and the Bills.
Brown would start alongside Hill on the outside, and Beasley would play in the slot position. That would leave Robert Foster and Isaiah McKenzie to round out the depth chart. This would be a dynamic group of speedy and playmaking receivers that could make Buffalo a playoff team in 2019.
The Bills lose an inconsistent player in Zay Jones who hasn’t panned out the way Bills fans would have expected. Also, the Bills move on from LeSean McCoy who has been in many trade talks the past season and to start of this year as well. While losing McCoy is disappointing to some fans, the Buffalo Bills have much better depth at running back this year and would get value for McCoy before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
Losing McCoy opens up the Bills to split carries on day one with Devin Singletary and future hall of famer Frank Gore. Gore still has value at 36-years-old and he would be a great mentor to Singletary.
