Which 2019 rookie quarterback has the best shot at the Super Bowl?
By Joel Deering
No rookie quarterback has ever taken his team to the Super Bowl. Which rookie quarterback from the 2019 NFL Draft has the best chance to be the first?
A rookie quarterback tends to get a lot of attention heading into his first season in the NFL. It makes sense, as us fans can’t wait to see how these rookie signal-callers transition from college to the NFL. Through the years, we’ve seen many spectacular seasons from rookie quarterbacks, but there is one thing that none of them have ever done; no rookie quarterback has ever led their team to a Super Bowl.
The 2019 NFL Draft class saw 11 rookie quarterbacks selected. Of the 11 quarterbacks selected, I see four who have a legit chance at starting at some point during the season. Those four quarterbacks are Kyler Murray (No.1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals), Daniel Jones (No. 6 overall to the New York Giants), Dwayne Haskins (No. 15 overall to the Washington Redskins) and Drew Lock (No. 42 overall to the Denver Broncos).
A rookie quarterback who takes over the starting job either before or during the season obviously has a better chance at being the first rookie quarterback to lead his team to the Super Bowl. Murray will likely be the day one starter for the Cardinals. Jones has to unseat Eli Manning, Haskins has to unseat Case Keenum and Lock must unseat Joe Flacco.
Although Jones, Haskins and Lock have veteran quarterbacks in front of them, I believe each of them will get a shot at the starting quarterback job during the 2019 season. If these four guys are most likely to start among all the rookie quarterbacks, which of them has the best chance to lead their team to the Super Bowl?
Here, I’ll break down each rookie quarterback and their situation heading into the 2019 NFL season to see which of them has the best shot at making history.
