1. New England Patriots

Greatest strength: Key veterans at important positions

Greatest weakness: Overall talent and depth

Tom Brady is the catalyst for this group offensively, and on defense, the Patriots are just solid all-around and well-coached. Where’s the star power?

The Patriots haven’t really needed that, and in fact they have intentionally traded guys like Chandler Jones who have a bit of star power defensively. They, more than anyone, are the sum of all of their parts and they just play well together. If anyone could be considered a superstar in the NFL for the Patriots defensively, it’s got to be CB Stephon Gilmore.

Offensively, the Patriots have a great RB position group, but their WR group and TE group is in a sad state right now, unless Rob Gronkowski comes out of retirement to bail  them out.

The Patriots’ offensive line is stellar and well-coached, and that unit is led by star guard Shaq Mason.

James White could be the most underrated all-around back in the NFL right now.

The thing about the Patriots is, they are built so much around key veteran players who have seemingly been around forever and they don’t seem to draft extremely well (flaming hot take alert). The Patriots do a good job of targeting fits for their system around the league via trade and low-key free agent pickups, but their high draft choices in recent years leave something to be desired.

We’ll see what happens with Sony Michel, Isaiah Wynn, and N’Keal Harry.
