2018 NFL Draft first round re-draft: What changes one year later?
3. New York Jets: Sam Darnold
Original Pick: Sam Darnold
This was the first really difficult decision of this re-draft for me. Are there players available that may be more talented at this point in their career? Players that had a better rookie season? Sure. But the Jets moved up to three to select their franchise quarterback and Sam Darnold showed enough promise to remain the pick here for me.
Darnold got off to a bit of a rough start, as to be expected to some degree from a rookie. However, over the course of the season, he seemed to come into his own. Despite a less-than-stellar supporting cast with the Jets last season, Darnold eventually became the highest-rated quarterback over the final four games of the season, according to Pro Football Focus.
Now seeing what the Jets did this offseason, adding running back Le’Veon Bell, guard Kelechi Osemele, and slot receiver Jamison Crowder, New York seems to be surrounding Darnold with the pieces he needs to succeed.
Some of the other players may have had more impressive rookie seasons, but the Jets believe in Darnold Quarterback is such an important position in today’s NFL and I’m not ready to give up on him becoming a solid starting QB for the Jets for years to come.
