S Eric Berry

Eric Berry is arguably the best NFL free agent still available on the open market. It was not long ago that Berry was considered one of the very best safeties in the entire NFL and while he may not be the player he once was, Berry can still provide some value for a team ready to compete like the Browns.

The obvious connection here is with Dorsey, who was the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs for four seasons with Berry on the roster. Dorsey is never afraid to take a risk and Berry is a player who he is extremely familiar with. If anybody knows how he can improve their chances in 2019, it’s John Dorsey.

Injuries are a major concern here. Berry has only played in four games combined with the Chiefs the past two seasons, missing significant time with an Achilles injury and a nagging heel injury. However, when he is right, Berry is as good as it gets, and at only 30-years-old, he could easily still have plenty left in the tank.

Right now, the Browns have a solid starting duo of Damariuos Randall and Morgan Burnett at the safety position. However, they do lack quality depth behind those two. Most NFL teams like to play a lot of three safety defensive sets and the Browns are currently not in a great position to do that. Adding a healthy Berry to the mix would allow them to play three safeties whenever they like.

Simply put, if he is healthy, Berry would tremendously help the Cleveland Browns defense. Taking a shot on him on a one-year deal would undoubtedly be worth the risk.
