Round 3

Who it was: Dawuane Smoot (68)

Who it should have been: Cooper Kupp (69)

At this point in Dawuane Smoot’s career, this looks like a huge swing and a miss from the Jaguars. Not only is this the wrong pick in hindsight, but even at the time of the selection, it was thought of as a reach.

Smoot has yet to register his first NFL sack and is sparsely used on that loaded Jacksonville Jaguars defense. With 2018 first-round defensive end Taven Bryan expected to take a step forward this season, as well as the addition of Josh Allen, Smoot’s snaps could reach a career-low in 2019.

What hurts the worst about this selection is that the very next pick in the 2017 NFL Draft was Rams standout wide receiver, Cooper Kupp.

Kupp should have absolutely been the selection here, especially considering Jacksonville’s 2017 offseason, where they decided it would be a good idea to live life without Allen Robinson.

Kupp has 102 receptions, 1,435 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 23 games in his career, and those numbers would be even more impressive if he hadn’t gotten hurt halfway through the 2018 season.

This could have been the reliable target that the Jaguars have been missing ever since Robinson’s departure.
