Jacksonville Jaguars: Comparing Nick Foles’ current situation to his Eagles championship team
Special Teams
An often overlooked part of the game, special teams (particularly a kicker) can be crucial when it comes to winning or losing close games.
2017 saw the breakthrough of rookie kicker Jake Elliott for the Eagles, who made nearly 93% of his extra points, and nearly 84% of his field goals, including the infamous 61 yarder to beat the Giants that allowed him to burst onto the scene.
The Jacksonville Jaguars seem to have found a solid kicker themselves in Josh Lambo. After being let go by the Chargers, Lambo has been outstanding in Jacksonville, converting on over 90% of field goals and extra points in both seasons as a Jag.
Foles had a clutch kicker during his Super Bowl run in Philadelphia and also has an incredibly reliable one in Jacksonville.
Conclusion
So how will Foles fare with his new team? Only time will tell. But there are certainly a lot of parallels between this Jacksonville Jaguars team and his Super Bowl Eagles team that should bode well for him.
Although many of the Jags players are not as experienced or proven, the talent and potential are there to do something great. If his coaches mold the offense to fit his strengths and these young guys continue to develop into solid players, the Jags could get back to where they were in 2017 themselves. Arguably a blown call away from going to the Super Bowl.
A healthy running back, developing wide receivers, a solid option at tight end, healthy and improved tackles and a return to form for the defense is what Nick Foles has to hope to see in Jacksonville this season. It might not be immediate, but despite now being in a tough division, the Jacksonville Jaguars, led by Nick Foles, could be right back in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt before you know it.
