5. Washington Redskins: Landon Collins, S, Alabama

Original Pick: Brandon Scherff

Brandon Scherff was not a bad pick by any means, but Landon Collins is a stud at safety and instead of waiting to get him in free agency this past offseason, he’s a Redskin from day one. Collins best season came when we recorded 125 tackles, four sacks and five interceptions in 2016 for the Giants.

The Redskins lacked depth at safety at this time, with only having Trent Robinson and Dashon Goldson as starting free safety and strong safety. Neither were impressive for the Redskins and Collins would have fit in better at strong safety day one here than in New York.

In New York, Collins started at free safety for a season before playing at his true spot of strong safety because of the dire need for a free safety with the Giants.

6. New York Jets: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

Original Pick: Leonard Williams

The missed out on the best player in the draft this time around, but they need a quarterback and can’t pass up on Jameis Winston at this spot. Winston is a lot better than Geno Smith and could have sat for a year while Ryan Fitzpatrick filled in.

Winston threw for over 4,000 yards his first two seasons in the league but since then has dropped off. He needs to clean up his play and not turn the ball over, as he has 58 career interceptions in four seasons. He does have a strong arm but needs to work on his accuracy to prevent the turnovers. At the end of the day though Winston is better than Geno Smith and would have improved the Jets on day one.
