2. Edge Rusher

Jadeveon Clowney has become a big-time asset on the edge, showing an impressive combination of power and explosive athleticism that allows him to put consistent pressure on the passer. The Houston Texans franchise tagged Clowney this offseason and he did not take it well. Now, the Clowney situation is completely up in the air.

No matter what happens, it seems unlikely that Clowney will be back with the Texans after the 2019 season. On top of that, fellow edge rusher Whitney Mercilus is also entering a contract year. Losing Clowney will hurt, losing both Clowney and Mercilus could be devestating.

The desperation of this need remains to be seen, but the Houston Texans are undoubtedly going to have edge rusher on their radar during the 2020 NFL Draft. The upcoming class of edge rushers aren’t as dominating of a group as we saw in the 2019 draft, but there is still a lot of talent coming into the league at the position.

Simply put, aside from Watt, Clowney and Mercilus are probably the most talented players on the Texans’ defense. Losing one or both of them is going to hurt and with little depth behind them on the roster, Houston simply must address those losses in the upcoming NFL draft.
