Arizona Cardinals: Looking ahead to potential needs for 2020 NFL Draft
2. Edge Rusher
The Arizona Cardinals are heading into the 2019 season with Chandler Jones and Terrell Suggs as the primary edge rushers on their roster. Jones is one of the best in the game and is a player who they can legitimately build their defense around. Suggs is a 36-year-old veteran who the Cardinals signed to a one-year deal. Brooks Reed is another older rush linebacker on the roster who is only signed through 2019.
Simply put, the Cardinals would be wise to build younger depth on the edge going forward. They have done a nice job of finding veterans who can fill in on a short-term basis, but besides Jones, there is not much long-term edge rush talent on the roster. If the Cardinals can find a talented edge rusher to pair with Jones, they will be on the right track towards building their defense.
The 2020 NFL Draft is not quite as loaded at the edge rusher position as the 2019 class. That being said, there are still some interesting players who should be on the Cardinals’ radar. If Arizona is picking towards the top again, guys like Chase Young and A.J. Epenesa would be obvious targets. Guys like Yetur Gross-Matos, Nick Coe and Anfernee Jennings also stand out as edge rushers who should be on their radar.
