2017 NFL Draft Redo: Re-Drafting the entire first round
8. Carolina Panthers: Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee
Original Pick: Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey has become one of the best running backs in the entire NFL. His combination of speed, quickness, toughness and receiving ability makes him a perfect fit next to Cam Newton in the Panthers’ offense. Sticking with him as their pick at number eight would certainly make some sense. However, Alvin Kamara is an even more dynamic player who would also shine in Carolina.
Kamara was arguably the steal of the 2017 NFL Draft, landing with the New Orleans Saints in the third round. He immediately burst onto the scene as a rookie, showing the ability to score from anywhere on the field. He is a dynamic running back whose speed, short area quickness and overall elusiveness allow him to dominate as both a runner and receiver.
Kamara led the NFL in yards per carry (6.1) as a rookie and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year for his incredible season. He was equally productive in his second season and has established himself as one of the premier young players in the entire league.
Deciding between McCaffrey and Kamara was not easy. Both players are absolute superstars who will likely have a long and successful career. I gave the slight edge to Kamara for Carolina, but this one really could have gone either way.
