3. San Francisco 49ers: Myles Garrett, EDGE, Texas A&M

Original Pick: Solomon Thomas

The San Francisco 49ers taking Solomon Thomas with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft really stands out as a poor selection in this range. Thomas was drafted to be a premier pass rusher off of the edge but has found little success through the first two years of his career and was the subject of trade rumors this offseason. Not great.

He could certainly still turn things around and become a productive player for the 49ers, but if they could turn back time and change this pick, San Fran undoubtedly would.

With quarterbacks going with the top two picks, Myles Garrett slides down the board a bit, landing directly into the laps of John Lynch and company. Garrett is a freak off of the edge who has had immediate success in his short NFL career. Through two seasons, Garrett has piled up 20.5 sacks and 47 quarterback hits in 27 games.

He has an elite combination of size, power and explosive athleticism that gives him obvious All-Pro upside year-after-year. Simply put, Garrett is a dynamic pass rusher who can also dominate against the run. Any team would love to have him at their disposal.

Swapping out Thomas for Garrett would be an ideal scenario for the 49ers, as they find a true cornerstone to build the rest of their defense around.
