2017 NFL Draft Redo: Re-Drafting the entire first round
2. Chicago Bears: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
Original Pick: Mitch Trubisky
What an interesting decision for the Chicago Bears to make here. On the night of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bears traded up one spot to secure the selection of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. He has played well for Chicago and is undoubtedly worthy of consideration here again. I also think that Myles Garrett should be in the discussion.
In the end, I decided to stick with the quarterback selection for the Bears, but instead of Trubisky, Deshaun Watson is the pick.
Watson has been a dynamic playmaker at the quarterback position through his first two years. He has obvious mobility at the position, is an extremely smart and cerebral decision maker and can make any throw on the field. Watson has had a lot of success in his short NFL career, despite the lack of protection that he has received from the offensive line of the Houston Texans.
The Texans have almost inarguably the worst offensive line in the entire NFL, leading to Watson continually running for his life. He has already been great, but imagine what this guy could do with adequate protection.
Trubisky is a good quarterback who can lead the Bears to success, but Watson is better. It really is as simple as that. Deshaun Watson would have been an absolute star under the eventual tutelage of Matt Nagy in Chicago.
