2017 NFL Draft Redo: Re-Drafting the entire first round
11. New Orleans Saints: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
Original Pick: Marshon Lattimore
With both Kamara and Lattimore already off of the board, the New Orleans Saints are obviously going to lose big in this re-draft scenario. The Saints were able to pull off a major haul in the 2017 NFL Draft and those players have led them to a lot of success on the field.
Here, the Saints settle for Christian McCaffrey, who would be a logical fit in their offense, similar to Kamara in real life. McCaffrey is an elite athlete at the running back position, showing great breakaway speed, incredible elusiveness in the open field, elite short-area quickness and tremendous contact balance.
He is an extremely well-rounded back who can dominate as both a runner and receiver and would undoubtedly be a massive weapon for Drew Brees in the Saints’ offense.
12. Houston Texans: George Kittle, TE, Iowa
Original Pick: Deshaun Watson
The Houston Texans found their franchise quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft and would love nothing more than to land Deshaun Watson again. Unfortunately, he is long gone in this scenario, forcing Houston to go in another direction.
George Kittle is another big-time steal from this draft, landing with the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (146th overall). Kittle is a strong blocker at the tight end position but has really shined as a receiver at the NFL level, showcasing an impressive combination of size, speed and athleticism.
In 2018, Kittle caught 88 passes for 1,377 yards and five touchdowns. He had more receiving yards than any other tight end in the NFL, was voted to the Pro Bowl and named a second-team All-Pro selection. Simply put, Kittle has quickly become one of the best tight ends in the entire NFL and would undoubtedly be a dynamic weapon in the Texans’ offense.
