Houston Texans: D’Onta Foreman primed for breakout 2019 season
Watch out for Houston Texans running back D’Onta Foreman in 2019. He could be in line for a major breakout season.
Lamar Miller has been a steady back for the Houston Texans over the last three years. However, if they were being honest, I am sure that the Texans’ coaches and front office would love to see D’Onta Foreman make the running back position his this season.
Foreman was taken by the Texans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He entered the league with plenty of promise as a big, powerful and athletic back who could handle a large load of carries. That being said, after a solid start to his career, Foreman suffered a torn Achilles late in his rookie season that has greatly held him back.
Foreman only played in one game for the Texans last season but appears ready to get his career back on track in 2019.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, “The progress Foreman has made this offseason has been remarkable. (Foreman) is back in the Texans’ good graces after getting healthy and is in the best shape of his life this spring and summer.”
A smooth and powerful back out of the University of Texas, there was a lot to like about Foreman’s game coming out of college. He showed obvious power at the point of attack, great contact balance and has fantastic overall athleticism for a man of his size. He is a quick and relatively elusive runner who does a nice job of finding lanes and exploding through the hole.
If Foreman really has put the injury behind him and is in the best shape of his life, watch out. This guy has an impressive overall skill set at the running back position.
Led by quarterback Deshaun Watson and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins, the Houston Texans have a potentially elite offensive unit. If Foreman can become the third part of an explosive offense and help take the pressure off of the passing attack, this team could quickly become legitimate contenders in the AFC. He is certainly a player to keep an eye on as the season approaches.
