2020 NFL Draft: 8 seniors get preliminary first-round grades
No surprise here.
The 6-foot-6 Herbert would have almost undoubtedly been the top overall quarterback taken in the 2019 NFL Draft if he had decided to leave school a year early, but he wanted to stay another year with the Ducks to hone his craft and play with his younger brother.
Herbert’s brother, Patrick, is a four-star tight end prospect who is likely going to be a major impact player for the Ducks this year. They may never get the opportunity to play together again, so why not, right?
Herbert turned down millions and the chance at being the top pick in the draft to play with his brother, but he also has some things to work on.
Physically, all of the tools are there. Herbert has a great arm and is athletic for his size and length.
Where Herbert needs some work is throwing the ball and making good decisions in general under pressure, as well as overall pocket presence. He also has some injury history teams will dig into.
Still, the qualities are all there for a QB1 at the next level. He is going to be in a possibly loaded class at his position, so Herbert will need a big senior season to maintain his top 10 draft status.
