Tua Tagovailoa is Vegas’ odds-on favorite to go No. 1 in 2020 NFL Draft
Vegas has released the betting odds for who will go with the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Tua Tagovailoa is the favorite, but who is the best player to put your money on?
In back-to-back years, the players who went first overall in the NFL Draft basically came from out of nowhere. Both Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray were not really on the NFL radar a year before they went number one so we should take all of this early NFL draft information with a grain of salt.
That being said, when Vegas speaks, we should all listen. The Vegas odds for who the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft will be are out and no surprise here, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the favorite to go number one.
Tua is a -200 favorite and that certainly makes sense. He is an incredibly gifted player who has had a lot of success throughout his college career. Things could obviously change, but Tagovailoa is clearly the most likely number one overall pick at the moment.
Tua’s top competition to go number one is Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert, who checks in next at 4-1. Herbert was expected to enter the 2019 NFL Draft but went back to Oregon and is a clear threat to go first overall in the 2020 draft. With a strong senior season, Herbert could quickly overtake Tagovailoa as the favorite.
Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm comes in next at 5-1. Fromm is a good college quarterback, but his limited arm strength limits his upside at the next level. I would be extremely surprised if he were to be the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Ohio State defensive end Chase Young checks in next at 20-1, followed by Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy at 30-1. Both of these appear to be strong bets that should be considered if you are looking to put your money on the line.
There are four players at 40-1: Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown, Alabama defensive lineman Raekwon Davis, Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and Stanford offensive tackle Walker Little. None of these guys would be anything more than a shot in the dark. I like Thomas best out of the four in the group.
At 100-1 is Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa. Taking the odds into consideration, this is my favorite bet of the bunch. Epenesa is a freakishly strong defensive end who also shows tremendous burst around the edge. He is a freak pass rusher and fantastic run defender who has obvious upside at the next level.
Quarterbacks are always going to be the most likely number one picks, but edge defenders are probably next in today’s NFL. Epenesa is an absolute star in the making and should explode onto the scene as more of a full-time contributor in 2019.
