New England Patriots 2018 re-draft: What would Bill Belichick change?
How would the New England Patriots change their picks in the 2018 NFL Draft?
The New England Patriots did not get a single snap of production out of their top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Isaiah Wynn was taken by the Patriots with the 23rd pick of the 2018 draft but suffered a torn Achilles in the preseason and was never able to make an impact as a rookie.
The Patriots were obviously able to survive without Wynn, winning their sixth Super Bowl championship. Such is life with Tom Brady as your quarterback and Bill Belichick as your head coach.
While the Pats were obviously fine without it, they did not get much out of their rookie class as a whole last season. Before we get too much further, let’s take a look at the Patriots 2018 draft class
New England Patriots 2018 NFL Draft Class
Round 1 (23rd overall): Isaiah Wynn, OT
Round 1 (31): Sony Michel, RB
Round 2 (56): Duke Dawson, DB
Round 5 (143): Ja’Whaun Bentley, ILB
Round 6 (178): Christian Sam, ILB
Round 6 (210): Braxton Berrios, WR
Round 7 (219): Danny Etling, QB
Round 7 (243): Keion Crossen, CB
Round 7 (250): Ryan Izzo, TE
Running back Sony Michel made an obvious impact, as did seventh-round cornerback Keion Crossen. However, besides those two, this draft class has provided essentially nothing thus far and is clearly looking pretty shaky. All of these players are still on the roster, but that is likely to change with training camp right around the corner.
When it comes down to it, there are some obvious misses in this draft class when we look back one year later. If Belichick could redo the 2018 NFL Draft, I am sure he would make some changes.
In this post, we are going to focus on the Patriots’ first three picks (two in the first and one in the second) and determine the direction they should have gone.
