A complete 2017 NFL Draft redo for the Kansas City Chiefs
Round 2: Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee
Original Pick: Tanoh Kpassagnon, EDGE, Villanova
In the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs took a shot on some pass rush upside, snagging edge rusher Tanoh Kpassagnon. This was a pick made with an eye on the future, but Kpassagnon has shown very little through his two years in the NFL. He may end up growing into a worthy defender eventually, but Kpassagnon is not under consideration in this re-draft.

Instead, the Chiefs find Mahomes a dynamic player out of the backfield to work with. Alvin Kamara might be the biggest steal of the 2017 NFL Draft, as the New Orleans Saints were able to wait until the third-round (67th overall) to make him the selection.
Kamara was an immediate star for the Saints, piling up 826 yards and five touchdowns on 120 carries as a rookie. His 6.1 yards per carry average led the NFL. He was an even more dynamic weapon in the passing game, catching 81 passes on 100 targets for 826 yards and five touchdowns.
For his play in 2017, Kamara was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year, voted to the Pro Bowl and selected as a second-team All-Pro. Simply put, this guy was an absolute star from the start and he continued to have a ton of success in his second season.
It is hard to imagine Kamara being in a better situation than he is in with the Saints. That being said, standing next to Mahomes in the Chiefs’ backfield may have been that situation. Andy Reid and company do an incredible job of creating space for their playmakers and Kamara undoubtedly would have been put in a position to eat in Kansas City.
A backfield of Mahomes and Kamara would have given opposing defensive coordinators nightmares for years to come.
