Round 1: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Original Pick: Mahomes

It would be pretty hard to mess this one up. Trading up for Mahomes could easily become the single greatest move in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs and I am not going to do anything to mess that up.

As you know, Mahomes sat on the bench behind Alex Smith as a rookie before taking over as the starting quarterback in 2018. And boy what a 2018 season it was.

In his debut season, Mahomes completed 66% of his passes for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was clearly the most dynamic player in the entire NFL and was an obvious league MVP selection.

Mahomes burst onto the scene with innate playmaking ability. He was known as a big-armed quarterback with nice mobility coming out of college, but there proved to be much more to Mahomes than that.

He is an incredibly smart quarterback who seemingly always knows where to make the best play. He is also an accurate passer who places his passes tremendously, can make throws from seemingly impossible arm angles and can sense pressure like a 10-year veteran. Simply put, Mahomes is basically a perfect quarterback for the modern NFL.

He is probably the most valuable asset in the entire NFL and would be the sure-fire number one selection if this entire draft was to be re-done. The Kansas City Chiefs hit the jackpot here and there is not another player on the board who should be even remotely under consideration.
