If a mulligan were allowed, what would the Kansas City Chiefs change about their 2017 NFL Draft haul?

April 27th, 2017 will likely be a day that goes down in Kansas City Chiefs history. That was the day that Patrick Mahomes became a member of their organization. The Chiefs were abnormally aggressive on that day, trading up in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. They gave up their third-round pick that year and their 2018 first-rounder to go from 27 to 10 in order to get in position to take Mahomes. It is a moment that all Chiefs fans will always remember.

If the Chiefs could turn back time, they would not change a single thing about that day. That being said, their overall performance in the 2017 NFL Draft left plenty to be desired. There were decisions made that weekend that could certainly be considered regrettable.

First, let’s take a look at the complete 2017 NFL Draft haul for the Kansas City Chiefs:

Round 1 (10th Overall): Patrick Mahomes, QB
Round 2 (59): Tanoh Kpassagnon, EDGE
Round 3 (86): Kareem Hunt, RB
Round 4 (139): Jehu Chesson, WR
Round 5 (183): Ukeme Eligwe, LB
Round 6 (218): Leon McQuay, S

Aside from Mahomes and Kareem Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs has essentially gotten nothing out of their 2017 draft class. In fact, out of the six players selected, only Mahomes and Tanoh Kpassagnon are still on the roster. Kpassagnon is only holding by a thread.

The selection of Mahomes alone made this an incredible draft haul for the Chiefs. That being said, it is always fun to look back and imagine what could have been. In this post, we are going to take a look back to the 2017 NFL Draft and pick the players that the Chiefs actually should have taken, with hindsight as our friend of course.
