After adding Nasir Adderley to the mix, the Los Angeles Chargers could quickly have the best safety duo in the entire NFL.

Derwin James had an incredible rookie season for the Los Angeles Chargers. James made an immediate impact for the team, piling up 105 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 interceptions and 13 passes defended on the year. James was a Pro Bowl selection and named a first-team All-Pro for his play in 2018. What a rookie year.

James will be back with the Chargers in 2019, leading their impressive defense from his strong safety position. However, he will have more help on the back-end than he did last season.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted safety Nasir Adderley in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Free safety was an obvious need for this team and Adderley was the best coverage safety in this draft class.

He is a fluid athlete who shined as both a cornerback and safety in college. He has tremendous range on the back-end, changes directions quickly and high-points the ball in the air extremely well. Adderley also has fantastic natural coverage instincts and ball skills.

Simply put, the Los Angeles Chargers rookie safety has all of the necessary skills to dominate in pass coverage. In today’s NFL, where the passing game is king, having a capable coverage safety on the back-end is incredibly important.

James has already established himself as one of the premier safeties in the entire NFL. He is a tremendous run defender from the safety position. He can also dominate in man-to-man and short zone coverage. Simply put, he is a dominant player at the strong safety position. If Adderley adapts quickly to the NFL, it would not take much for them to become the best safety duo in the NFL.
