Take one glance at the physique and size of tight end Josh Oliver and you can go ahead and check the box of someone who looks the part. Add in the fact that the Jaguars are in desperate need of someone to step up at the position and that Nick Foles has shown an affinity for throwing to the tight end and you have the makings of a breakout rookie for the Jags in 2019.

Jacksonville selected Josh Oliver in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and he’s expected to immediately contribute to the passing game as the rest of the position group would not incite much fear in defenses. James O’Shaughnessy and free agent acquisition Geoff Swaim are the only tight ends on the roster that contributed to a team’s passing game last season but they combined for just 50 catches, 456 yards and one touchdown.

The 6-foot-5 249-pound tight end clocked a top five 40 yard dash at the position at the NFL Combine back in March, so he could provide an immediate spark. Oliver will give Foles a big, athletic option that could lead to him being a go-to target early in his career.

Oliver made plays all over the field while at San Jose State. Be on the lookout for the rookie to be lined up in several spots this season, as his ability will allow him to play in-line or in the slot in 2019.

It has been quite some time since the Jacksonville Jaguars have had a real threat at tight end but I have a feeling Josh Oliver could show out early and be the answer Jacksonville has been looking for.
