Re-Drafting the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft
29. Arizona Cardinals: Sterling Shepard, WR
Original Pick: DL Robert Nkemdiche
The Arizona Cardinals selection of defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche was another major bust in the 2016 NFL Draft. There is no way that Nkemdiche would be on anybody’s radar in a re-draft situation like this.
Instead of whiffing on Nkemdiche, the Cardinals shoot for some offensive firepower. Sterling Shepard is a quick and dependable wide receiver who has flashed some nice upside in his NFL career. He would have been a nice addition to the Cardinals’ receiving corps in 2016.
30. Carolina Panthers: Justin Simmons, S
Original Pick: DT Vernon Butler
Justin Simmons has grown into a very good safety in the NFL. With fantastic range and overall athletic ability, Simmons is a big-time asset as a deep safety. He would have been a nice addition to the Carolina Panthers’ defense late in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
31. Seattle Seahawks: Joe Thuney, OL
Original Pick: OL Germain Ifedi
Last, but not least, the Seattle Seahawks. This was the draft where the New England Patriots had to forfeit their first-round pick, leaving the Seahawks to make the final first-round selection at number 31. Their selection of offensive lineman Germain Ifedi left plenty to be desired.
Joe Thuney was taken in the third round by the Patriots and has been an extremely dependable starter for the team at left guard. The offensive line has been a major issue for the Seahawks over the years and Thuney undoubtedly would have been a nice, reliable starter for them to have around.
