Re-Drafting the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft
10. New York Giants: Ronnie Stanley, OT
Original Pick: CB Eli Apple
The New York Giants taking cornerback Eli Apple with the 10th overall pick was the first real bust of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Giants were clearly squared in on Floyd and seemed to panic when the Bears traded up and snagged their guy ahead of them.
Apple never fit with the Giants and struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter. The Giants cut bait with during the 2018 season and he has been solid for the Saints. However, it was just never a strong fit with the Giants.
Instead of Apple, I like Ronnie Stanley as the pick for New York. Stanley has quickly established himself as a rock-solid starting NFL left tackle. The offensive line has been a major issue for the Giants for many years. Stanley would not solve all of their problems up front, but he would solidify the most important offensive line position.
With Stanley in the fold, it would protect the Giants from making a significant investment in Nate Solder as they did. Solder is a solid player, but he is not worth the money that he got from the Giants. If the Giants had Stanley around, they could have spent that money to help solidify the rest of the offensive line and perhaps made the entire unit better.
