Re-Drafting the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft
9. Chicago Bears: Chris Jones, DL
Original Pick: EDGE Leonard Floyd
The 2016 season ended up being a disaster for the Chicago Bears. Their 3-13 record led to the selection of Mitchell Trubisky and the turnaround to their current Super Bowl contender. In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Bears made a savvy move, trading up two spots to jump the New York Giants and snag edge rusher Leonard Floyd.
Floyd showed plenty of promise coming out of a college but has never lived up to his billing. In this re-draft, taking a replacement for Floyd is obvious. Instead of Floyd, the Bears bring in defensive lineman Chris Jones.
With an impressive combination of size, power and explosiveness, Jones has established himself as one of the premier interior penetrators in the NFL. He is an impressive pass rusher and strong run defender for the Kansas City Chiefs and would have been a dynamic player up front for the Bears.
In this scenario, the Bears pair Jones up with Akiem Hicks, giving them an incredible defensive end duo for their base 3-4 defense. In their nickel and dime packages, the pair could have been the best interior pass rush duo in the NFL.
Jones is one of the best players in this draft class and an obvious fit for the Bears at number nine.
