1. Drafting/trading up for OT Andre Dillard

The biggest mistake the Houston Texans made this offseason was not drafting or trading up to draft Washington State offensive tackle Andre Dillard.

In the pass-happy NFL, Dillard’s incredible feet, athleticism, and pass blocking skills would have been perfect for what the Houston Texans needed this offseason — protection for DeShaun Watson.

This is a team that gave up 60-plus sacks this past season and watched their prized QB go down with a serious knee injury as a rookie. What more proof did they need that the offensive line was a problem?

Instead of trading up for Dillard and to reference a previous point signing Brown and Paradis, the Texans came away from this offseason with Tytus Howard, Max Scharping, and Matt Kalil on the offensive line.

They could have had Matt Paradis, Trent Brown, and Andre Dillard.

When you look at the moves Houston could have made with the money they have available (not including the fact that they should have re-signed Tyrann Mathieu), it’s a bummer to think we’ll look back and wonder how much better they could have been with DeShaun Watson at the helm.

There’s a reason this team fired GM Brian Gaine after all of his offseason work, and it’s lists like this that likely have the Texans wishing they could make the ‘what if’ a reality.
