The New York Giants’ offensive line issues have been well documented in recent years. The Giants have struggled to find players who can compete up front and it has impacted their ability to consistently put points on the board.

New York did not address their offensive line issues in the 2019 NFL Draft, only taking George Asafo-Adeji in the seventh round. However, they did attack their offensive line need after the draft, with Missouri offensive tackle Paul Adams standing out as a particularly interesting addition.

Adams was a three-year starter at right tackle in college and a two-year captain. He gets off of the ball quickly and can dominate at the point of attack. Adams is a strong overall run blocker whose hand strength and overall hand usage stand out on tape.

He shows the necessary foot quickness to keep up with most speed rushers and shows a good, strong punch in pass protection. That being said, he finds himself unbalanced in pass pro far too often, consistently over-reaching and getting himself out of position. This caused him to struggle mightily against counter moves. Adams also lacked ideal pad level in pass pro, leading to too many losses against bull rushes.

Adams tested well prior to the draft and shows nice athleticism on tape. He is also a strong and competitive player who is always going to give you his best. Whether he sticks at tackle or moves inside to guard, I believe that Adams has enough to at least be a solid depth player up front. If he cleans up his technique in pass pro, Adams could quickly become a rock-solid starter for the New York Giants.
