Fantasy Football: Dallas Goedert a smart tight end to target

Fantasy football owners should be targeting tight end Dallas Goedert in their upcoming drafts.

Fantasy football is difficult for anybody to predict, but the tight end position is a completely different animal. Travis Kelce led the way in tight end scoring last season and is the clear top tight end in early fantasy football drafts, followed quickly by fellow stud tight ends Zach Ertz and George Kittle.

Getting Kelce, Ertz or Kittle would be great, but spending a second or third-round pick on a tight end is not the best use of resources. Instead, loading up on running backs and wide receivers early on is typically the right way to go.

There is always a tight end or two who comes from seemingly out of nowhere to be among the best at the position. Last year, it was Kittle, who finished third in tight end scoring, and Jared Cook, who finished fifth.

Personally, I like to wait to draft my tight end. Maybe you will get lucky and snag one of the surprise top tight ends. Worst case, we can always stream and hope for the best. Tight end scoring is extremely difficult to predict and incredibly erratic.

Even if you are getting little to no production at the position, it is rarely that big of a deal in an individual matchup. Unless the team you are playing took one of the premier players, nobody is getting significant production out of the position and you should be better than those teams at running back and wide receiver.

So, we are going to wait on our tight end. Which one should we be targeting? David Njoku in the eighth round (at his current ADP) and Trey Burton in the 10th stand out as strong mid-round choices. However, Dallas Goedert of the Philadelphia Eagles stands out as a great late-round value.

Goedert is an extremely gifted tight end who showed some nice upside last season. He is a big and talented tight end who appears to have real value as a red zone target. He fights for the ball in the air extremely well and has exciting run after catch potential.

Being the second tight end in the Eagles’ offense is obviously not ideal. Ertz is the number one tight end on their roster with a bullet. That being said, the Eagles invested in Goedert when they took him in the second round (49th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He is clearly a talented player who the Eagles are going to want to get the most out of going forward. I fully expect them to showcase Goedert in two tight end sets, and with his obvious physical upside, he could really put up some nice fantasy football production on a weekly basis. On top of that, Goedert immediately becomes one of the premier tight ends in the game if Ertz gets hurt.

Simply put, Goedert is a talented player who is worth betting on. Ertz being around is obviously not ideal, but the Eagles are one of the best offenses in the NFL and are going to put up some serious points this season. Plus, he is going to essentially be free in your fantasy football draft. Goedert is a no-risk, high-reward kind of player.
