Oakland Raiders: Was signing Richie Incognito a huge mistake?
The Oakland Raiders took a massive risk signing offensive lineman Richie Incognito. Even if he ends up playing well, is it really worth it?
The Oakland Raiders signed veteran offensive guard Richie Incognito to a one-year ‘prove it’ contract, a move that was met with a ton of backlash from the media.
And rightfully so.
Although this video has some NSFW content in it, it’s both a hilarious and sad look at the way the Oakland Raiders have gone about business this offseason and what they have brought into their building by signing Richie Incognito.
Incognito has not only stated that he thinks his liver and kidneys are shutting down, but he’s openly threatened people at a funeral home with firearms in his vehicle, bullied one of his former teammates out of the league, apparently wanted his deceased father’s head cut off for research, punched caskets, and was convinced he was being tracked by the government.
After all that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the government actually was keeping a close eye on this guy.
Incognito, in all seriousness, appears to need a lot of physical and mental help, and also appears to be at least somewhat of a danger to society.
The video above makes some great points about how it’s possible Incognito thrives in the controlled environment of football, but he’s had his share of on-field antics as well.
In addition to the list of things above, Incognito has been under fire multiple times for racist comments he has made in the past.
But hey, if he can play left guard…
This is a bad move by the Oakland Raiders who spent their most prized assets — their three first-round picks in this year’s draft — on high-character, culture-building players.
Mike Mayock spoke to the media about the move and said that you can’t have ‘all boy scouts’ when asked about Incognito’s behavior.
Well, this is going a little beyond a non-boy scout.
We’re not here to play judge and jury over what NFL teams do, but signing Incognito is something the NFL should have prevented and it’s still possible he could face league discipline for his off-field antics.
This is a disappointing move for the Oakland Raiders.
