The obvious motivation for bringing in a new quarterback is to make everyone around them better. Odell Beckham got an upgrade this offseason, but who else?

Not everyone in the NFL gets better every offseason, but some players, coaches, and even executives get put in a much better position strictly based on what their team does at the quarterback position.

On the latest episode of the NFL Mocks podcast, Brooks Austin and I spend about 45 minutes talking about every big quarterback move around the league and who benefits the most from those moves.

If you have checked out the podcast before, thank you, we really appreciate it. We would love if you would continue to spread the word, whether you listen on Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, or Spreaker.

As always, we would greatly appreciate your feedback on the episodes, topics you’d like to hear covered, or any other way you’d like to interact with us.

This year’s quarterback movement was a lot of fun to watch over the course of the last four months or so. It seems like just about every team made some kind of move at the position, but obviously some teams are swinging for the fences with veterans and other teams are just trying to start putting runs on the board with rookies.

Speaking of baseball, how about your boy Kyler Murray for the Arizona Cardinals?

You know who doesn’t benefit from him being drafted number one overall to Arizona? The Oakland Athletics.

You hate to see it. Sorry A’s fans.

You know who does benefit from Murray being on the Cardinals? Brooks and I give a few names and I won’t give them all away (check out the pod!) but Brooks made a good point that David Johnson stands to benefit quite a bit. Murray is as dynamic a player as the Cardinals have had since Johnson has been there, and he can help take pressure off the guy who looked like the best all-around back in the NFL back in 2016.

Imagine if the Cardinals could get 2016 David Johnson and Heisman Kyler Murray…

Who else stands to benefit from their new quarterback this year? I took a bit of a different direction and instead of a quarterback moving teams, I think no player benefits more from his new QB than a wide receiver moving teams.

Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns

It doesn’t matter what your favorite team did at the quarterback position. If your team is not the Cleveland Browns, there’s no greater beneficiary in the league from his new quarterback than Odell Beckham Jr. going from Eli Manning to Baker Mayfield.

Manning appears to be past his best days and Mayfield appears poised to become a future $40 million-plus quarterback.

Manning was put on notice by the drafting of Daniel Jones, and Beckham was acquired in an aggressive trade to prove just how good Mayfield can be.

Mayfield got Breshad Perriman a solid contract (two, actually!) in free agency.

Mayfield played at a Pro Bowl level despite not starting the first three games of the season.

Beckham has gone from Jarrett Lee to Zach Mettenberger to Eli Manning and a number of other backups thrown in at certain points.

He now gets to go to Cleveland, where he will once again be teammates with his best friend Jarvis Landry and the hottest young QB in the league Baker Mayfield.

What could go wrong?

Until these guys’ personalities clash for whatever reason, this is the best move of the offseason I think any team could have made.

Other quick hits

Other players discussed in the podcast include Antonio Brown of the Oakland Raiders. Does moving from Pittsburgh to Oakland benefit Brown?

Maybe not in the fantasy world, but in terms of Brown’s attitude and general happiness with his situation, I think it helps a lot. We talk more about that in the podcast.

What about coaches? How is Jay Gruden positively affected by the drafting of Dwayne Haskins?

How does Joe Flacco impact the Denver Broncos, their receivers, Drew Lock, and John Elway?
