Kansas City Chiefs: Top three moves of the 2019 off season
1. Trading for DE Frank Clark
The most significant changes made to the Kansas City Chiefs defense this off season came up front. They moved on from veterans Justin Houston, Dee Ford and Allen Bailey, but added talented defensive linemen like Emmanuel Ogbah, Jeremiah Attaochu and rookie Khalen Saunders.
Most notably, the Chiefs made a big move for defensive end Frank Clark, who is one of the best edge rushers in the entire NFL. On the week of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Chiefs sent their 2019 first-round pick and a 2020 second-rounder to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Clark. Quickly after the trade, the Chiefs inked Clark to a five-year, $105.5 million contract extension.
Clark is a quick and explosive edge defender who shows an impressive combination of power and athleticism. He has impressive upfield burst, bends around the edge with ease and shows an impressive inside counter move that can give any offensive tackle issues.
He is an elite pass rusher who fits the Chiefs’ new 4-3 defense perfectly. Clark is also a fantastic run defender who sets the edge extremely well and can shoot the gaps and make plays in the backfield.
The Kansas City Chiefs undoubtedly gave up a lot to get Clark in the mix. That being said, he is one of the premier edge rushers in the entire NFL and will undoubtedly help take their defense to the next level. Adding Clark was the best move made by Kansas City this off season.
