The Cleveland Browns should make safety Tre Boston a late free agency priority.

The Cleveland Browns have been extremely active this off season. Their ability to take advantage of the New York Giants and swing a trade for Odell Beckham takes this team to the next level. Beckham is arguably the most dynamic player in the NFL and will undoubtedly take his game to the next level with Baker Mayfield throwing the ball.

On top of bringing in Beckham, the Browns made impressive moves like signing Sheldon Richardson and trading for Olivier Vernon. They also landed the best cornerback in the 2019 NFL Draft, when they snagged Greedy Williams in the middle of the second round.

When it comes down to it, the Cleveland Browns have significantly improved this off season and are among the most talented teams in the entire NFL. They are loaded with talent and have strong depth on both sides of the ball. However, the safety position still stands out as a position of need.

According to Spotrac, the Browns still have plenty of cap space to work with. They undoubtedly have enough money under the cap to make a late free agency move or two. In particular, free agent safety Tre Boston stands out as an obvious fit for this team.

As things stand now, Damarious Randall is the only safety on the roster who the Browns can undoubtedly count on. Morgan Burnett is a decent starting strong safety, but he is far from a perfect player and the Browns desperately lack depth behind Randall and Burnett.

If nothing else, the Cleveland Browns would be wise to add some quality depth to the safety position and Boston would be an ideal fit.

Boston is an athletic defensive back who shows impressive ball skills on the back-end. He is also a tough and physical player who tackles well in the open field and is not afraid to come up and make plays in the box.

The Browns would not be adding Boston to the mix to replace Burnett as a starter, but he would be an ideal third safety for this team. Boston’s versatile skill set makes him a great fit for big nickel packages, as he could roam the field and make plays from sideline to sideline. On top of that, Boston would be an adequate replacement if either starting safety were to go down.

When it comes down to it, Boston is far too talented of a player to still be available on the open market. Him being ignored on the open market for the second season in a row is absolutely baffling.

At this point, Boston will likely be signed for a tremendous value once again. The Cleveland Browns should take advantage of this value and sign Boston, helping to fill the biggest need on their roster.
