Tight Ends Grade: C+

The tight end group has taken a lot of heat in the offseason. A lot of people thought Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, or even both would be gone already. However, the Washington Redskins tight end group of the whole is not bad.

Jeremy Sprinkle started nine games last year and quickly developed into an outstanding blocking tight end. Jordan Reed actually played 13 games last year, being able to stay healthy more often than not.

Both Reed and Davis have been to multiple pro bowls so there is obviously talent there. Also, the 6-foot-6 260-pound Mike Flanagan is a gifted player who has a lot of natural upside at the tight end position.

Quarterbacks Grade: C

Finally, let’s look at the Washington Redskins quarterbacks. I’m hoping next year this is a no brainer A+, but in the NFL, you don’t get points for how good you are supposed to be. Dwayne Haskins could be the answer to so many Redskins fan’s prayers but we have learned the hard way to not count those chickens before they’re hatched. Haskins has the tools to be great.

As he learns the ropes, Case Keenum proved two years ago in Minnesota that if he is surrounded by enough talent, he can perform well enough to take his team to the conference championship. I think it’s a safe bet that the Redskins are going to feel a lot better about the quarterback situation next year than they do right now.

Unfortunately, this is an example of the sums of the various parts not adding up to a whole. The Redskins have very strong offensive and defensive lines. They have good linebackers and corners, even if safety is a concern. The wide receivers and tight ends are at least acceptable and the running backs are good. Admittedly, the quarterback position is a question mark but I think most people are optimistic about how this is going to play out.

Taking everything into consideration, I would guess this is a team that might win between seven and nine games. Regardless, the Washington Redskins are on the rise and clearly are a team to watch going forward.
