Packers TE Jace Sternberger will be a popular fantasy football pick
The Green Bay Packers got a dynamic pass catching threat at the tight end position in Texas A&M product Jace Sternberger, who will be a popular fantasy pick.
The Green Bay Packers had two first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, but it’s going to be third-round pick Jace Sternberger, a tight end out of Texas A&M, who will steal headlines when it comes to fantasy football.
Sternberger’s journey as a college football player took him a number of places, starting off with the Kansas Jayhawks where he redshirted in 2015.
When he finally got the chance to play in 2016, it was apparent the tight end position was an afterthought in the Jayhawks offense, and Sternberger opted to transfer out.
He wound up at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he caught six touchdown passes in the 2017 season before he was recruited to come and play for Texas A&M.
In his one season with the Aggies, Sternberger lit up the rest of the SEC to the tune of 17.3 yards per catch, 832 yards, and 10 touchdowns on his way to consensus All-American honors.
I’m sure Sternberger would tell you nothing about the journey was that simple, but he ended up getting picked 75th overall by the Packers, who employ some guy named Aaron Rodgers at the quarterback position.
Rodgers isn’t going to get Sternberger confused with any other no. 87s to play for the Packers anytime soon, but he looks good in these colors:

Imagine Rodgers with a receiving threat at the tight end position who can make contested catches like this:
Jimmy Graham just ain’t what he used to be, unfortunately, which is why the Packers, their faithful fans, and fantasy football enthusiasts should be thrilled about the dynamic playmaker coming from the school of agriculture to the land of cheese.
Sternberger is going to be an instant hit in the NFL, in my opinion, and he’s going to make his presence felt in a variety of ways.
Not only can this guy make contested catches, but you don’t average over 17 yards per catch just running routes deep downfield. Sternberger, as previously mentioned, is exceptional after the catch and while he’s not running in the 4.4 range, he’s shifty and understands how to create in space.
I think the Packers got themselves a bargain here in round three, and someone who can contribute instantly to their offense in 2019.
Aaron Rodgers may have been salty when the Packers let the legendary no. 87 go, but I think he’s going to like the new model just fine.
