Porter Gustin, DE, USC

One look at Porter Gustin and you can see why he is on this list. At 6’4″ and 255 pounds, the guy is an imposing athlete and showed off his physical ability at the NFL scouting combine after running a 4.69 40 yard dash, jumping 35.5 inches in the vertical and putting up 31 reps on the bench, which were the most among edge defenders.

While his testing numbers are undeniable, the questions around him come when you try to find those traits in his game film. He certainly has moments where he is able to showcase that athleticism but for the most part, he doesn’t show any sort of explosiveness when in pads.

However, he does display some good pass rush moves that include a solid shoulder dip when trying to get around tackles.

Gustin certainly has some work to do but he has a shot at earning an early role on special teams. If he can stay healthy and tweak parts of his game for the better, he could eventually earn his way into the pass rushing rotation, which just so happens to be a spot that the Saints are very thin.
