Colts select Rodney Anderson, RB, Oklahoma instead of Gerri Green

Honestly, I think Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts crushed the NFL Draft again. They traded down to create more picks in the middle of the draft and did a great job of finding value. I could honestly see all of their first six picks being big-time contributors down the line.

I had an extremely difficult time trying to replace one of these picks for the Colts. I did not want to mess with their earlier selections, as they all fit what they are trying to do so well. Eventually, I landed on replacing defensive end Gerri Green out of Mississippi State.

The Colts hammered defense throughout this draft, and while I understand why they did, it felt a bit too defense heavy by the end. Instead of drafting Green in the sixth round, the Colts should have taken a chance on Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson.

Anderson struggled with injuries throughout his college career but was a big-time playmaker with the ball in his hands when he was on the field. He is a patient and instinctive runner who shows impressive burst through the hole and ability to maneuver in space.

Anderson shows good power at the point of attack and does a great job of maintaining balance through contact. He also showcases strong hands and gets upfield quickly after the catch. Simply put, Anderson can be a three-down back at the next level if he can stay healthy.

The Colts are probably happy with their current mix of running backs, led by Marlon Mack, but it is not like they are absolutely loaded at the position. Anderson would have given them a talented running back with real starting upside for an extremely low cost.
