New England Patriots: 3 UDFAs who could make an impact
The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last season, but roster building never stops. Which 3 UDFAs on this roster can make an impact?
Roster building is a never-ending process for NFL teams, especially the very best ones. The New England Patriots have done great work through the years in finding undrafted free agent gems, so we need to pay attention to the guys they brought in after the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Patriots finished off a strong draft with a fun UDFA class. Which guys can make this year’s roster or make an impact at some point?
Let’s take a look.
With average size at 6-feet, 209 pounds and above-average explosiveness (4.63 in the 40-yard dash, 34.5-inch vertical jump), Malik Gant was apparently not quite athletic enough to make the cut of the top 250-plus players in this rookie class.
I am not so sure the NFL got this one right.
Gant has proven over the last two years to be quite the tackling machine with 184 stops, 14 tackles for loss, and a sack.
He added to that 13 pass breakups and two interceptions.
The hard-hitting safety and former walk-on comes to the Patriots with the same mentality he had coming into college — he’s the underdog.
The Patriots seem to do a great job every year of developing unheralded talent in the secondary, and perhaps Gant can be the latest.
